A heart-wrenching scene unfolded at Madhepura railway station in Bihar, where two young girls, aged 5 and 2, sat beside their lifeless mother through the night, pleading ‘Mom, wake up.’ The 5-year-old cradled her mother’s head in her lap, while the toddler clung to the body, exhausted from crying. They waited desperately for their father, who had promised to return in just five minutes.
Passersby gathered as the tragic sight came to light. When the cloth covering the woman’s face was lifted, she was found dead. The children had been by her side for nearly two hours, their sobs echoing through the platform. This devastating incident has shocked the local community and raised serious questions about the circumstances leading to her death.
The victim was identified as Kajal Kumari, 25, from Bhatkhora Jitapur. Eight years ago, she eloped with Mohammad Murshid during her matric exams, defying her family and converting for the marriage. They had two daughters, and Murshid supported the family with jobs first in Madhepura and later in Mumbai for better prospects.
Trouble brewed when Murshid gifted Kajal a smartphone to stay connected. Her growing addiction to social media led to an affair with Mohammad Anjar. With Murshid visiting only twice a year, Kajal left her home to live with Anjar. She became five months pregnant, but Anjar refused the child, sparking constant fights.
On Tuesday night, Anjar took Kajal and the children in an auto-rickshaw to the station, claiming she was unwell. He laid her on a bench and fled, saying he’d fetch a doctor. The girls waited all night. Come morning, their cries drew attention, alerting the Government Railway Police (GRP).
Police have taken custody of the body and noted marks on her neck suggesting strangulation. Kajal’s family has been informed, and investigations are probing the role of both her husband and lover, who remains at large. This case highlights the dark side of elopement, infidelity, and abandonment, leaving two innocents orphaned in the most cruel manner.
