New Delhi witnessed a fierce political showdown as Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra condemned the Delhi Police’s arrest of Indian Youth Congress National President Uday Bhanu Chib in the strongest terms. Labeling the action as ‘shameful,’ Vadra declared that the Congress party stands firmly with the fearless soldiers of the Youth Congress.

In a powerful post on social media platform X, Priyanka Gandhi emphasized the party’s proud legacy of peaceful, non-violent resistance for truth, inherited from Mahatma Gandhi and millions of Indian ancestors. She criticized the government for buckling under global pressures and compromising India’s interests, arguing that raising voices against such policies serves the benefit of 1.4 billion Indians.

‘The crackdown on Youth Congress workers for amplifying the people’s voice is utterly condemnable and shameful,’ she wrote. ‘The Congress party is steadfastly with the brave Youth Congress soldiers.’

Senior Congress leaders echoed her sentiments. AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal highlighted how the government ignores those protesting for the public, common citizens, and farmers. Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala asserted that if opposing the government is a crime, every Congress worker will commit it repeatedly.

Uday Bhanu Chib’s mother, Rajni Bala, spoke exclusively to reporters, revealing that her son was arrested on Monday. She questioned when protesting became a ‘conspiracy’ in the country, pointing to constitutional rights to raise voices against government wrongs. Recalling Congress’s history of leaders enduring long jail terms for the freedom struggle, she noted how the party never suppressed protests during its rule 11 years ago.

This incident underscores deepening tensions between the ruling dispensation and opposition, with Youth Congress at the forefront of agitations against perceived anti-people policies. As political rhetoric heats up, the Congress vows unyielding support for its youth wing, signaling a protracted battle ahead.
