Bhagalpur is racing towards becoming a true metro city, with major strides in its ambitious metro rail project. The survey report for the first phase has been submitted, while ground surveys for the second phase are underway. Once these reports are finalized, construction will kick off without delay.
Survey teams are actively mapping key areas including Nastarkhani in Nathnagar, Rattipur-Bairia panchayat, Champanagar, Purani Sarai, Rampur Khurd, Maheshpur, Aliganj, and Sardho-Jiccho in Sabour. Engineers are evaluating potential station sites, track alignments, and technical feasibility. This comprehensive survey will produce a detailed digital map incorporating buildings, roads, drains, rivers, hills, groundwater levels, and underground utilities—serving as the blueprint for the entire project.
The metro network will feature Red, Blue, and Green lines across two primary corridors. The East-West Corridor stretches 17 km from Sabour to Champanagar, while the North-South Corridor covers 12 km from Bhagalpur to Vatuvihar. Together, they will include 22 stations, with a crucial interchange hub near Bhagalpur station for seamless line transfers.
Land identification for the metro yard is progressing, with sites scouted in Jagdishpur and the university area in Nathnagar. This yard will handle train parking, maintenance, and operations.
Once operational, the metro promises to alleviate chronic traffic congestion, slashing travel times and boosting connectivity. This development is set to catalyze economic growth and urban transformation in Bhagalpur, as stakeholders await final survey approvals to turn visions into reality.
