Brisbane erupted in cheers as Australia clinched a commanding six-wicket victory over the Indian women’s cricket team in the opening ODI at Allan Border Field. Chasing a modest target of 215 runs, the hosts romped home in just 38.2 overs, losing only four wickets in a clinical display of batting prowess.

Captain Alyssa Healy was all smiles post-match, radiating satisfaction with her team’s performance. ‘There was pressure on us to bounce back after losing the T20 series,’ she admitted. ‘I’m thrilled with how we played today. It’s a fantastic comeback, and I’m proud of the girls. We need to replicate this in Hobart.’

Healy emphasized Australia’s affinity for the 50-over format. ‘As I said at the toss, we love this format and excel under pressure. We’ll adapt quickly to Hobart’s conditions,’ she added confidently.

The win, she believes, will boost morale significantly. ‘Our 21-0 record at this venue is outstanding. The girls might need some rest before the next game as a few are tired, but this victory will lift spirits high.’

Earlier, India batted first and struggled to build partnerships, folding for 214 in 48.3 overs. Smriti Mandhana top-scored with a resolute 58, while captain Harmanpreet Kaur contributed 53. The middle order crumbled, unable to accelerate.

Australia’s bowlers set the tone, with Ashley Gardner claiming 3-33 in a miserly spell and Megan Schutt grabbing 2-42. In the chase, Beth Mooney’s explosive 76 off 79 balls, Healy’s composed 50, and Annabel Sutherland’s unbeaten 48 steered Australia to victory effortlessly.

This result levels the mental scores after the T20 defeat, setting up an intriguing series decider in Hobart. Australia’s dominance in ODIs remains unchallenged, but India will look to regroup swiftly.
