Bhopal is buzzing with good news for urad growers as Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced a substantial bonus for the state’s farmers. In a move to bolster agricultural incomes, the Madhya Pradesh government will provide an additional Rs 600 per quintal on top of the minimum support price (MSP) for urad.

Speaking to reporters, CM Yadav highlighted the ongoing ‘Kisan Kalyan Varsh’ initiatives aimed at doubling farmers’ earnings. ‘Urad, a key summer crop, deserves special encouragement,’ he emphasized. This bonus is set to benefit thousands of cultivators across the state, where urad is sown on roughly five lakh hectares.

The MSP for urad stands at Rs 7,800 per quintal, making the effective rate Rs 8,400 with the bonus. Officials anticipate this incentive will expand cultivation by around three lakh hectares, boosting overall production and rural economies.

This isn’t the first time the Yadav administration has stepped up for farmers. The state has successfully implemented the Bhavantar Bhugtan Yojana for soybean, disbursing Rs 1,500 crore to growers. Now, similar support is planned for mustard, which occupies 28% of the cropped area with an expected output of 15.71 lakh metric tonnes. Procurement under the scheme will be handled through the Mandi Board.

As Madhya Pradesh positions itself as a farmer-friendly state, this urad bonus signals a continued commitment to sustainable agriculture and fair pricing. Farmers are urged to register promptly to avail the benefits, promising a brighter harvest season ahead.
