In a chilling pre-dawn attack in Chhattisgarh’s Sarangarh-Bilaigarh district, a man armed with an axe stormed into his neighbor’s home and hacked at five sleeping family members. The brutal assault on Tuesday morning left three dead, including a young child, and two others critically injured, plunging the quiet village of Jhal into mourning.
The incident unfolded around 4:30 AM in Dongripali police station limits. Kunwar Say’s family was deep in slumber when neighbor Tulsi Sarthi, 26, burst into their home wielding a sharp axe, known locally as a tangia. He attacked without warning, striking repeatedly at the defenseless victims.
Tragedy struck swiftly. Two victims succumbed at the scene amid pools of blood, while the innocent child died en route to the hospital. A pregnant woman among the survivors fights for her life, alongside another injured family member, both receiving intensive care.
Preliminary police investigations point to a festering grudge dating back five years, sparked by a trivial dispute between the families. Sarthi, who works as a laborer at a hotel outside the village, had returned home just three days prior. His father, Shaukilal, recounted how Tulsi left at 4 AM claiming he was heading to the forest, only for screams to pierce the early morning silence moments later.
Villagers rushed to the house upon hearing the cries, discovering a horrific scene of carnage. Blood stained every corner, etching a nightmare into the community’s memory.
Police responded swiftly, arriving with forensic teams to secure the site. As Sarthi attempted to flee, Dongripali officers encircled and arrested him on the spot. Extra forces have been deployed to calm the terrified village, while forensics experts comb for evidence to ensure the perpetrator faces the harshest punishment.
This mass axe attack has shattered the peace of Jhal village, leaving residents in shock and demanding justice for the innocent lives lost in a web of old animosities.
