Bengaluru, February 24: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge issued a fierce rebuke against the arrest of Indian Youth Congress chief Uday Bhanu Chib, declaring that the party stands unbowed in the face of intimidation tactics. ‘They are trying to scare our young leaders, but Congress is neither cowardly nor will it ever cower,’ Kharge asserted during a media interaction here.
Kharge emphasized the party’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding democracy and the Constitution. ‘Whatever sacrifices are needed, we will make them,’ he pledged, underscoring a resolute fight against what he described as orchestrated efforts to suppress opposition voices.
Drawing parallels to past controversies, Kharge pointed fingers at the BJP’s own history. ‘During the Commonwealth Games, what did Nitin Gadkari and BJP leaders do? They failed to grasp the national sentiment at every major event,’ he remarked, criticizing the ruling party for hypocrisy. ‘BJP lectures others endlessly but never looks in its own mirror. If they did, they’d confront their own truths.’ He categorically condemned the arrest of Youth Congress members.
Amid rising youth unemployment and public fury towards the central government, Kharge lamented the lack of meaningful action from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. ‘Youngsters are desperate for jobs, and the atmosphere in the country has deteriorated to a point of massive resentment against the Centre,’ he said. Accusing the government of capitulating to foreign pressures, he referenced American President Trump’s influence, claiming policies mimic those of the US leader.
Kharge warned that the India-US trade deal would devastate farmers, pushing them towards bonded labor status. On the AI Summit protest that led to Chib’s detention, he highlighted the unusual severity: ‘Normally, police release protesters after a short while, but not this time. This is targeted intimidation against Congress, but we won’t be frightened.’
The Congress chief vowed to continue the struggle, signaling no retreat in the battle for democratic values and constitutional integrity.
