China Urges US to Drop Unilateral Tariffs on Trade Partners

Beijing has sharply criticized the United States over its persistent use of unilateral tariffs, calling on Washington to immediately lift these measures imposed on its trading partners. In a strongly worded statement, a spokesperson from China’s Ministry of Commerce responded to a recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling on tariff disputes, noting that Beijing is closely monitoring both the decision’s content and its broader implications.

China has long opposed any form of one-sided tariff hikes, emphasizing repeatedly that trade wars benefit no one and protectionist policies yield zero gains. The spokesperson highlighted that U.S. actions such as reciprocal tariffs and those targeting fentanyl imports blatantly violate international trade rules as well as America’s own domestic laws. Such moves, they argued, serve neither side’s interests.

Historical evidence underscores this point: cooperation between China and the U.S. has always led to mutual prosperity, while confrontation has inflicted damage on both economies. As tensions simmer, China is making a direct appeal to the U.S. to remove these unilateral tariffs without delay.

Furthermore, Beijing has taken note of reports indicating that the U.S. is preparing alternative strategies, including new trade investigations, to justify keeping these tariffs in place. China vows to stay vigilant and firmly safeguard its legitimate interests in response to any such developments. This latest exchange highlights the ongoing friction in U.S.-China trade relations, with both powers digging in on their positions amid global economic uncertainties.
