Mumbai’s spotlight often reveals the bold choices of Bollywood stars who prioritize personal freedom over convention. Pooja Bhatt, daughter of veteran filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, stands out as one such icon. Born on February 24, 1972, she debuted at 17 in ‘Daddy’ and went on to star in hits like ‘Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin,’ ‘Sadak,’ ‘Zakhm,’ and ‘Sanam Teri Kasam.’

Her career wasn’t her only headline-grabber. In 2003, Pooja married Mannish Makhija, but after 11 years, she chose divorce. Speaking candidly in interviews, including on ‘Bigg Boss OTT 2,’ she explained, ‘I make my own priorities in life, whether career or relationships. Marriage can be beautiful, but it’s not essential for happiness or success.’

Pooja revealed the emotional depth behind her decision. ‘My husband wasn’t a bad person, but staying in that marriage meant losing myself. I wanted to reclaim my identity and live comfortably on my terms.’ This self-empowerment extended beyond acting; she directed and produced films like ‘Jism,’ ‘Paap,’ ‘Dhoop,’ and ‘Kajraare.’

Today, Pooja embodies unapologetic independence. Her story resonates with many navigating personal crossroads, proving that true fulfillment comes from honoring one’s inner voice. In a world of societal pressures, her choice to end the marriage underscores a powerful message: self-preservation trumps obligation every time.
