PESHAWAR: In a brazen assault on Pakistan’s security forces, two sequential drone attacks targeted the Federal Constabulary in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Karak district, claiming the lives of three personnel. The strikes unfolded with chilling precision, underscoring the evolving tactics of militants in the region.

Local media reports detail how assailants first unleashed a quadcopter drone on the Federal Constabulary fort in the Dargah Shahidan area. As injured comrades were rushed to the hospital in an ambulance, a second drone strike hit the vehicle, resulting in the fatalities. Karak police spokesperson Shaukat Khan labeled the perpetrators as terrorists, while district officer Saud Khan confirmed the devastating follow-up attack.

This incident marks the third such targeting of paramilitary or military units in KP within a week. Just days earlier, a suicide bombing at a Bajaur checkpoint killed 11 guards. On February 18, two constables were wounded in an assault on a Salgazi post in Wazir subdivision.

The violence echoes a broader surge. Last November, a suicide attack on the FC headquarters in Peshawar’s Saddar area felled three more. According to the Center for Research and Security Studies’ 2025 report, KP saw fatalities jump from 1,620 in 2024 to 2,331 last year—a 44% rise in incidents amid relentless terrorist campaigns.

Security analysts warn that drone usage signals a dangerous escalation, complicating defenses in this volatile northwest frontier. As Pakistan grapples with intensified militancy, questions mount over countermeasures against these aerial threats.
