RAJKOT, February 23 – In a decisive move to reclaim public land, the Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) launched a major anti-encroachment drive in the Jangleshwar area on Monday. Heavy machinery rolled in to demolish 1,489 illegal structures sprawling across 87,000 square meters along TP Road and the riverbank.

With a massive deployment of over 700 personnel, including senior officials, the operation is proceeding under tight police vigil. Commissioner Tushar Sumera emphasized that constructions along the river and on planned city roads are blatant violations. ‘We issued prior notices and conducted door-to-door campaigns for five days, even providing tractor services to help residents clear their belongings peacefully,’ he stated.

Police presence ensured smooth execution, as Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Jagdish Bagarwa reported a largely peaceful start. Many residents preemptively dismantled their encroachments after counseling, minimizing confrontations. The drive targets 100% removal from riverbanks and roadsides, aiming to restore urban planning integrity.

This action underscores the government’s commitment to freeing vital public spaces. As bulldozers rumble on, Jangleshwar residents witness a transformative cleanup, promising better infrastructure and flood-prone area management in the future. The operation continues, with authorities vowing no leniency for persistent violators.
