In a shocking act of brutality in Bihar’s Gopalganj district, a son allegedly slit his own mother’s throat over a mere 100 rupees. The incident unfolded in the Usri Bintoli area under Baikunthpur police station, sending ripples of horror through the local community.
The victim, 55-year-old Sumitra Devi, wife of Ganesh Rawat, was alone at home when her elder son, Rambharose Rawat, demanded money from her. When she couldn’t provide the 100 rupees, he flew into a rage. Armed with a sharp weapon from the house, he attacked her viciously, severing her throat. Sumitra gasped for breath and died on the spot in a pool of her own blood.
Neighbors heard her cries and rushed to the scene. Spotting the blood-soaked body and the fleeing son, an enraged mob caught Rambharose and beat him severely before handing him over to the police. Officers arrived promptly, took the accused into custody, and sent Sumitra’s body for postmortem at the Model Hospital.
Forensic teams scoured the site, collecting blood samples and other evidence. Preliminary investigations point to the petty cash dispute as the trigger, but police are digging deeper into possible other motives. Ganesh Rawat revealed that the couple had been out fishing, leaving Sumitra alone. He described his son as a chronic addict with two failed marriages, both wives having abandoned him.
Baikunthpur police have registered a case and are interrogating the suspect. Sadar SDPO-2 Rajesh Kumar confirmed the swift arrest and ongoing probe. This heartbreaking matricide has left the village in mourning, raising urgent questions about addiction, family breakdowns, and the need for community intervention in troubled households.
As the investigation continues, locals demand stricter measures against substance abuse, hoping to prevent such tragedies from repeating in their midst.
