In a groundbreaking moment for India’s infrastructure landscape, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Namo Bharat Rapid Rail and Meerut Metro corridor in Meerut on Sunday. This historic event marks the first time in the country that both rapid rail and metro services were launched from the same platform on the same day, heralding a new era of connectivity for Uttar Pradesh and the nation.
Addressing a massive public rally, PM Modi described the project as a shining example of connectivity in Viksit Bharat. The integrated system seamlessly blends metro services for intra-city travel with Namo Bharat trains designed to link twin cities, revolutionizing urban mobility.
Sharing glimpses of the event on social media platform X, the Prime Minister called the day historic in building cutting-edge infrastructure across India. He expressed pride in dedicating the entire Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat corridor to the nation, emphasizing how such initiatives make travel smoother and more convenient for citizens.
PM Modi personally rode the metro, interacting with excited students along the way. Posting photos with the children, he noted how their enthusiasm amplified the joy of the experience and infused him with fresh energy from Meerut’s residents.
In his speech, the PM highlighted the shift under his government: projects no longer languish unfinished. From laying the foundation stones himself to inaugurating them today, he underscored a commitment to completion. Before 2014, metro services were confined to just five cities; now, over 25 cities boast metro networks, positioning India as the world’s third-largest metro system.
A standout feature of the rapid rail is its unique integration at stations like Sarai Kale Khan, Anand Vihar, Ghaziabad, and Meerut, where Indian Railways, metro, and bus stands converge. For the first time, Namo Bharat and metro trains will share tracks and stations, offering passengers seamless options for local or direct Delhi commutes.
This integration promises to transform lives, especially for workers and students who can now avoid the burden of renting in Delhi, making daily commutes efficient and affordable. As India accelerates towards developed nation status, initiatives like these stand as testaments to visionary leadership and relentless execution.
