Ahmedabad, February 22: South Africa’s wicketkeeper-batter Ryan Rickelton expressed confidence in his team’s preparations ahead of their Super 8 clash against India at the Narendra Modi Stadium in the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Speaking to broadcasters before the high-voltage encounter, Rickelton highlighted the squad’s readiness and eagerness to embrace the electric atmosphere.

‘Our preparation has been solid,’ Rickelton stated. ‘It’s always an optional session, but the players make sure to keep their spots sharp. Everyone’s in different spaces, but collectively, we’re moving forward well. The players are geared up differently, ensuring they’re primed for tonight’s big opportunity, and we’re all looking forward to it.’

Batting at number three this year, Rickelton has been averaging an impressive 65 runs. He credits this position with broadening his perspective on T20 batting. ‘I accept it for what it is, but it’s just a different viewpoint,’ he explained. ‘Limiting yourself to being an opener specialist narrows your thinking. Stepping out at number three, especially in that first match against West Indies at Pearls, was eye-opening. It taught me how to read and play the game from this role.’

Rickelton feels fortunate to bat alongside Aiden Markram, who has spent considerable time at three. Rather than rushing in, he focuses on viewing the game holistically. ‘I’m trying to put pressure on these guys, trusting my instincts more, and making the right calls at the right moments,’ he added. ‘Entry points vary, and different phases demand different approaches. It’s a skill still developing, but I keep an open mind.’

As the Proteas gear up for this blockbuster matchup, Rickelton’s adaptability could prove pivotal in navigating the challenges posed by India’s formidable attack on the big stage.
