Patna witnessed a moment of pride on Sunday as Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar felicitated Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the young cricket sensation who played a pivotal role in India’s triumphant Under-19 World Cup 2026 campaign. The 15-year-old batting prodigy from Bihar was handed a cheque of Rs 50 lakh and an angavastram amid thunderous applause.
Vaibhav’s arrival in Patna was marked by a grand welcome, reflecting the state’s joy over his achievements. The Chief Minister personally congratulated the youngster, highlighting how Vaibhav’s stellar performance not only secured the World Cup title for India but also brought immense glory to Bihar. ‘Your hard work and talent have made you a new hope for Indian cricket,’ Nitish Kumar remarked, emphasizing Vaibhav’s contribution in the tournament where he amassed 439 runs across seven matches at an impressive average of 62.71, finishing as the second-highest run-scorer.
In a detailed address, the CM showered praises on Vaibhav, urging him to continue his exceptional form and create new milestones for the national team. He assured full governmental support, pointing to ongoing initiatives to build world-class sports infrastructure across Bihar. ‘We are providing every facility to our athletes, and Vaibhav will receive all possible assistance,’ Kumar added.
The ceremony underscored Bihar’s commitment to nurturing sporting talent. Vaibhav’s family, including father Sanjeev Suryavanshi, brother Ujjwal, and others, joined in the celebrations.
