Jharkhand’s Gumla district is reeling from yet another shocking gang-rape case involving a minor girl, marking the second such incident in just 48 hours. The brutal attack unfolded in the Raidiha police station area, where eight assailants waylaid the victim as she returned from a fair with a friend late Friday night.
The teenage student had attended the Marda Mela with her companion. As they made their way home through a quiet stretch near a mango orchard, a group of unknown men ambushed them. The attackers first assaulted the girl’s friend, beating him severely and forcing him to flee. Left alone and vulnerable, the minor was then subjected to repeated sexual assault by the eight perpetrators in a horrifying ordeal that has left the community in outrage.
Somehow escaping her captors, the traumatized girl reached home and confided in her family about the nightmare. Her parents rushed her to the Raidiha police station, where a formal complaint was lodged, sparking immediate action. Police teams have launched extensive raids across the area, vowing to apprehend all suspects soon.
This incident comes hot on the heels of another gang-rape just two days prior in the neighboring Kamdara police station limits. There, four men in a car abducted two minor girls, assaulted them, but were swiftly arrested by vigilant officers—Anmol Dungdung, Surendra Sahu, Dharmjeet Badaik, and Sonu, all from Simdega.
As Jharkhand grapples with these back-to-back atrocities, questions mount over women’s safety. Government schemes like Maiya Samman Yojana promise empowerment, yet streets remain perilous for young girls.
