Vellore, Feb 22: In a significant shift, actor-turned-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has canceled its much-anticipated public rally scheduled for February 23 in Agaramcheri, Vellore district. Instead, the party will now hold a closed-door executive council meeting with 4,900 delegates.
Originally planned as a massive public event expecting around 25,000 attendees, the gathering faced scrutiny from local authorities. Vellore Police Superintendent N.U. Shivaraman issued a notice with 20 conditions after inspecting the 33-acre site, demanding a written explanation from the party.
Responding swiftly, TVK modified the event format to comply with police directives. The public rally has been transformed into a strictly controlled administrative session. Entry will be restricted to delegates holding QR code-enabled ID cards, ensuring only authorized personnel gain access.
The meeting is set for Monday from noon to 4 PM. Organizers have made elaborate arrangements, including 10 shamianas for shelter, ample seating, and distribution of 50,000 water bottles. A 6,000-liter drinking water tank will also be available on-site.
Medical preparedness is robust, with 10 teams comprising 30 doctors, 100 nurses, and 100 aides deployed. Fifteen ambulances will stand ready, supported by 500 trained volunteers—including 50 women—who have undergone security training under retired sub-inspector Sabiyullah.
Police will deploy 900 personnel to maintain order. The venue, near the Chennai-Bengaluru National Highway, will see traffic diversions on the Agaramcheri-Pallikuppam road, but the highway and service roads remain unaffected. Vijay will travel by road from Chennai, with strict measures against unauthorized vehicles trailing his convoy.
This change underscores TVK’s commitment to regulatory compliance while proceeding with key internal deliberations, marking a pragmatic start to its political engagements.
