In a major triumph against drug smuggling, Assam Rifles personnel intercepted a boat smuggling methamphetamine tablets worth approximately Rs 11.85 crore from Myanmar into Mizoram’s Longtlai district on February 20. The operation led to the seizure of around 80,000 tablets weighing 3.952 kilograms and the arrest of four suspects.
Acting on credible intelligence about illicit drug trafficking across the India-Myanmar border, troops from Assam Rifles established a mobile vehicle check post near Kakichhuha village in Longtlai district. Around 11:30 AM, they spotted a suspicious boat navigating the Kolodyne River from Myanmar territory.
The boat was promptly halted, and a thorough search of the four occupants uncovered the massive consignment hidden onboard. Among the arrested individuals were three Myanmar nationals—Chaimongthin (17), Thanling (17), and Thanlangwon (15), all from Pyugmaung—and one Indian, Lairamlina (40) from Bungtlang, Longtlai, Mizoram.
This seizure underscores Assam Rifles’ unwavering commitment to curbing narcotics inflow along the porous border. The contraband and suspects were handed over to Bungtlang Police Station for further legal proceedings. Officials emphasized that such operations are part of a broader strategy to dismantle smuggling networks and promote a drug-free India.
Local communities have applauded the swift action, which bolsters security in the region. Assam Rifles reiterated its zero-tolerance policy, vowing continued vigilance against cross-border threats to public health and safety.
