In a thrilling boost for tennis enthusiasts, 45-year-old tennis legend Venus Williams has been awarded a wild card entry into the prestigious Indian Wells tournament. The organizers confirmed the news, igniting excitement among fans worldwide as the seven-time Grand Slam champion prepares to return to the court.

Scheduled from March 1-15 in Southern California, the BNP Paribas Open will see Williams competing in both singles and doubles categories. This marks another chapter in her remarkable career, where she’s defied age with unwavering determination.

Venus expressed her joy on social media, stating, ‘Returning to Indian Wells and coming home to California feels incredible. Nothing beats playing in front of these amazing fans. I’ve created so many memories here over the years. Grateful to the organizers for welcoming me back.’

A former world No. 1 and four-time Olympic gold medalist, Williams has a storied history at Indian Wells. She reached the semifinals three times, showcasing her prowess on these courts. Her last appearance in 2024 was also via wild card, proving her enduring competitiveness.

Williams kicked off her 2026 season at the Australian Open with a wild card, becoming the oldest player in the Open Era to compete there. Though she exited in the first round against Olga Danilovic, she won the first set fiercely before the Serb rallied from the baseline. Danilovic held firm in the decider, breaking serve at crucial moments. Venus impressed with nine aces and a 71% first-serve points won, despite five double faults proving costly.

In doubles, she teamed up with Leylah Fernandez last year to reach the US Open quarterfinals, underlining her versatility. Tennis fans globally will watch her performance at Indian Wells with bated breath, eager to see if the veteran can conjure more magic.

This wild card not only honors her legacy but also inspires a new generation, reminding everyone that passion for the sport knows no age limit. As preparations ramp up, all eyes are on Venus to light up the desert courts once again.
