In a heartwarming development for inclusive sports, the Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI) has expressed profound gratitude to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for its unwavering commitment to elevating blind cricket on the global stage. This endorsement comes at a time when India’s visually impaired cricketers have scripted history, dominating international arenas over the past decade.

Since 2012, the men’s blind cricket team has clinched multiple World Cup titles, while the women’s squad secured victory in the T20 World Cup. BCCI’s strategic backing ensures these triumphs are not just celebrated but sustained at the highest levels. The partnership gained momentum following key discussions led by ICC Chairman Jay Shah, whose advocacy for inclusive cricket has been instrumental.

Shah collaborated closely with CABI’s leadership, including President Dr. Mahantesh G. Kivadasannavar and General Secretary Shailendra Yadav, to formalize support that blind cricket rightfully deserves. His vision emphasizes cricket’s growth through inclusivity, transforming ideals into concrete constitutional provisions. This move solidifies India’s stature as a global cricket powerhouse and a pioneer in making the sport accessible to all.

Under this alliance, BCCI pledges comprehensive assistance to both men’s and women’s national blind teams. Annually, it will fund two overseas tournaments, covering international tours and accommodations. For bilateral series in India, BCCI will arrange stays for home and visiting teams. Access to BCCI-supported stadiums and grounds with world-class facilities for domestic and international matches is also assured.

This collaboration bridges gaps in CABI’s CSR funding, enabling enhanced global promotion of blind cricket through tournaments and foreign series participation. It promises to amplify the sport’s reach worldwide. Dr. Mahantesh G. Kivadasannavar remarked, ‘We are deeply thankful to BCCI and Jay Shah for recognizing our cricketers’ journey. This support fills us with pride and empowers us to ensure blind cricket thrives in India.’

As blind cricket gains momentum, this partnership sets a benchmark for sports inclusivity, inspiring future generations.
