New Delhi is gearing up for a monumental celebration of India’s sporting future. On February 22, 2026, Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, will spearhead the 62nd edition of ‘Fit India Sunday on Cycle’ from Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium. This special event marks India’s triumphant bid to host the Commonwealth Games 2030 in Ahmedabad, a milestone after a 20-year gap.
The nationwide initiative, organized in collaboration with the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), will highlight ESIC’s 75 years of service in social security. In Delhi, Olympic bronze medalist Rupinder Pal Singh and Commonwealth Games bronze winner Rohit Tokas will join the minister, pedaling alongside participants to inspire fitness and national pride.
Dr. Mandaviya emphasized the Modi government’s holistic approach to transforming India into a global sports powerhouse. ‘This is a proud moment for every Indian,’ he stated. Investments in policy reforms, infrastructure, talent scouting, and development are paving the way. The minister also reaffirmed commitment to Prime Minister Modi’s vision of hosting the 2036 Olympics.
Gujarat’s recent sports-focused budget aims to elevate Ahmedabad into a world-class sports city. International bodies have praised India’s integration of mega-events with urban mobility, infrastructure growth, and long-term city planning. Launched last year by Dr. Mandaviya, the ‘Fit India Sunday on Cycle’ promotes cycling to combat obesity, reduce pollution, and foster a healthier nation.
As thousands cycle across India, this event underscores a collective push towards a fit, active population. It strengthens the foundation of India’s sporting ecosystem, blending celebration with action for future triumphs.
