In a major boost to India’s semiconductor ambitions, Qualcomm Technologies and Tata Electronics announced a strategic partnership on Friday to manufacture Qualcomm Automotive Modules at Tata’s upcoming semiconductor facility in Jagiroad, Assam. This collaboration aligns perfectly with the ‘Make in India’ initiative, aiming to produce cutting-edge automotive technologies right here in the country.

The modules will cater to digital cockpits, infotainment systems, connectivity solutions, and intelligent vehicle systems. By localizing production, the partnership addresses the surging demand from Indian and global automakers while enhancing supply chain resilience and diversity.

Tata Electronics has now joined Qualcomm’s global network of module manufacturing partners, focused on meeting the rising need for modular automotive platforms. These modules integrate Snapdragon Digital Chassis system-on-chips with essential components, delivering ready-to-use solutions that provide vehicle manufacturers with complete electronics platforms.

The design simplicity and accelerated development process of these modules enable scalable, ready-to-deploy architectures. This shift supports the industry’s transition to software-defined vehicles, streamlining innovation and deployment.

Nakul Duggal, EVP and Group GM of Qualcomm Technologies’ Automotive, Industrial, and Embedded IoT & Robotics division, emphasized the need for expanded manufacturing capabilities. ‘As the industry races toward integrated, module-based architectures, scaling production in key regions is crucial,’ he stated.

Savi Soin, Senior Vice President and President of Qualcomm India, highlighted how these comprehensive, easily integrable solutions reduce design complexity and speed up market entry for next-gen vehicles. Partnering with Tata Electronics bolsters Qualcomm’s capacity to offer flexibility and a robust supply chain to OEMs worldwide.

The Jagiroad facility, India’s first indigenous OSAT unit, is a $3 billion greenfield project equipped for advanced technologies like wire bond, flip chip, and integrated systems packaging. It will produce critical components for automotive, communications, IoT, and AI sectors, marking a pivotal step in India’s tech self-reliance.

This partnership not only fortifies domestic manufacturing but also positions India as a global hub for automotive semiconductors, promising economic growth, job creation, and technological advancement.
