In a significant push to bolster Bihar’s sports infrastructure, Chief Secretary Prayas Amrit chaired a high-level review meeting of the Sports Department. Attended by Sports Secretary Mahendra Kumar and senior officials, the session zeroed in on enhancing security and monitoring across the state’s sports ecosystem.
Amrit emphasized the urgent need to fortify safety measures in sports clubs and facilities. He issued strict directives mandating the installation of CCTV cameras in all panchayat-level sports complexes and outdoor stadiums. This move aims to create a robust surveillance network, ensuring the safety of athletes and visitors alike.
The Chief Secretary also called for institutionalizing the activation and operation of sports clubs. Regular reviews and progress assessments at the secretary level will now be mandatory, paving the way for effective implementation of sports schemes statewide.
To foster accountability at the grassroots, every sports club will be linked with district sports officers, state government coaches, and physical education teachers. This tagging system promises closer oversight and better coordination.
Transparency in procurement took center stage as well. Amrit ordered the empanelment of sports equipment suppliers through open invitations, curbing monopolies and ensuring quality gear at uniform rates for all clubs.
Reviewing the 27 operational Eklavya centers, the Chief Secretary expressed satisfaction and urged swift activation of the remaining ones. The department revealed plans for half marathons in November and February, with the first event kicking off this November.
These decisions underscore Bihar government’s commitment to building a secure, transparent, accountable, and inclusive sports environment, setting the stage for a sporting renaissance in the state.
