New Delhi witnessed a significant address by Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Friday at the centenary celebrations of Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC). Speaking to journalists about the National Education Policy (NEP) and the ongoing AI Impact Summit, Pradhan emphasized India’s pivotal role in uplifting the Global South.

Established in 1926, SRCC is marking its 100th year with pride. The college has been running a renowned school for the past 25 years and hosts an excellent center for Global Business Operations (GBO). Pradhan highlighted how the NEP is gearing India’s youth towards a developed nation vision, calling for young, innovative leadership.

The recent AI Summit in India showcased the country’s unmatched innovative prowess. To elevate this further, effective implementation of NEP is crucial, he stated. Institutions like SRCC and its GBO courses are poised to lead in fostering leadership. Discussions are underway to elevate GBO to a Master’s degree level, with positive outcomes expected soon.

Responding to queries on India’s global stance, Pradhan asserted that India has shouldered the responsibility for the Global South. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership is focused on enhancing capacities and meeting needs of developing nations. The AI Impact Summit underscores this commitment.

India is now standing shoulder-to-shoulder with major global AI players through its homegrown platforms: ‘Sarvam AI’ developed by IIT Madras and ‘BharatGen AI’ by IIT Bombay, in collaboration with the government. From being mere consumers of AI, India is transitioning towards sovereign AI capabilities. Pradhan urged citizens to adopt these platforms to bolster the national economy.

This vision aligns with India’s broader ambition to lead technological and educational advancements, ensuring sustainable growth for itself and partner nations in the Global South.
