In a groundbreaking push towards sustainable energy, the Indian government has launched the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, targeting the installation of solar panels on one crore rooftops nationwide. This ambitious initiative promises up to 300 units of free electricity per month for participating households, revolutionizing access to clean power.

Uttar Pradesh is at the forefront of this solar revolution, with the state agency UP NEDA spearheading implementations across districts like Gautam Buddh Nagar. Project officer Lavesh Kumar Sisodia highlighted how the scheme not only slashes electricity bills but also empowers consumers to generate surplus power and sell it back to the grid for additional income.

Financial incentives make the program highly accessible. Eligible households receive direct subsidies into their bank accounts—up to Rs 30,000 for 1 kW systems, Rs 60,000 for 2 kW, and Rs 78,000 for 3 kW installations. The entire process is digitized for transparency, starting with online registration on the official portal.

Once approved by the local discom, users install panels and upload net meter details along with bank information. Subsidies are promptly transferred, ensuring hassle-free benefits. Low-interest loans at around 7% without collateral further ease the upfront costs for average families.

Eligibility is straightforward: Indian citizenship, suitable rooftop space, valid electricity connection, and no prior solar subsidies. Required documents include Aadhaar, recent bills, bank passbook, mobile, and email. For guidance, contact UP NEDA offices in Greater Noida.

This scheme marks a pivotal shift towards green energy self-reliance, reducing fossil fuel dependence and fostering economic benefits for millions. As adoption grows, Uttar Pradesh exemplifies how policy innovation can drive national renewable goals.
