In a shocking display of recklessness, a group of young men in Chhattisgarh turned a busy state highway into their personal birthday bash venue late at night. On the Ambikapur-Banaras highway, they parked vehicles across the road, burst firecrackers, and cut a cake on a car bonnet, causing a massive traffic jam that lasted nearly 30 minutes. An ambulance was among the vehicles trapped in the one-kilometer-long snarl-up near Chathirma border area under Jaynagar police station.
The incident unfolded on February 16 around midnight at a dhaba near the Surguja-Surajpur district border barrier. The revelers, all reportedly from Ambikapur, started their party at the eatery before spilling onto the highway. They blocked both directions of traffic, lit up the sky with fireworks, and celebrated with cake-cutting right on the road. Eyewitnesses described chaotic scenes as vehicles piled up on both sides, with frustrated drivers honking endlessly.
A viral video of the event, showing the ambulance stuck amid the jam, sparked outrage online and prompted swift police action. Latori police chowki registered an FIR against 5 to 7 youths under BNS sections 285 and 126(2) for endangering public safety and causing public nuisance. Chowki in-charge Arun Gupta confirmed that efforts are underway to identify the suspects, who are believed to be locals from Ambikapur.
This brazen violation raises serious questions about road safety and youth behavior on public highways. Authorities vow to take strict legal measures once the accused are apprehended, serving as a stern warning against such dangerous celebrations. Traffic normalized only after the group dispersed, but the damage to public trust in highway discipline lingers.
