In a heartwarming tale of hope and perseverance, a 20-year-old man from Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district is set to reunite with his family after 13 long years. Separated at the tender age of seven when he boarded the wrong train, the boy ended up thousands of kilometers away in Kerala. Now, thanks to diligent police work and an NGO’s intervention, his incredible journey home is finally underway.
The incident dates back 13 years to a chaotic railway station in Jharkhand. Young Raja Gope, just seven years old, accidentally hopped onto the wrong train while traveling with his father. In the confusion, he was swept away from his family, embarking on an unforeseen odyssey to Kannur in Kerala. For years, his parents in Sonua police station area held onto faint hopes, never giving up the search for their missing son.
The breakthrough came recently when a local NGO in Kerala alerted Jharkhand police about a young man in their aftercare facility who matched the description of a long-lost child from Jharkhand. West Singhbhum Superintendent of Police Amit Renu confirmed that verification processes swiftly identified him as Raja Gope. ‘We have located his family in Sonua,’ SP Renu stated, outlining the next steps.
A dedicated police team, including officers from Sonua station and child protection officials, is preparing to travel to Kerala. They will handle all paperwork and escort Raja back to his roots. Deputy Superintendent Vinod Kumar and Station Officer Shashi Bala Bhengra have coordinated with Kerala’s Child Welfare Committee, where Raja currently resides.
This reunion symbolizes the power of community and institutional collaboration. As Raja prepares to return, his family eagerly awaits the moment they’ve dreamed of for over a decade. Jharkhand police’s humane initiative has earned widespread praise, reminding us that no child is ever truly forgotten.
