New Delhi, February 19 — Voice-based artificial intelligence and interfaces in local languages are emerging as the primary gateways for reaching India’s underserved communities, according to a newly released report.

Launched at the India AI Impact Summit 2026, the ‘India’s AI Impact Startups’ report highlights how a growing cohort of innovators is channeling investments into Made-in-India foundation models tailored for voice AI and vernacular interfaces. This shift is pivotal in democratizing technology access for millions who lack proficiency in English or digital literacy.

The Electronics and IT Ministry described the repository as the first systematic mapping of India’s impact-driven AI ecosystem. It showcases how Indian founders are crafting solutions that blend local design principles with global relevance. The analysis reveals an ecosystem buzzing with experimentation and reinforcement learning, poised for scalable impact.

Covering 110 startups and non-profits, the report — published by IndiaAI and Kalpa Impact — spans critical sectors like healthcare, agriculture, education, climate change, financial inclusion, urban mobility, and public service delivery. These initiatives harness AI to drive large-scale social and economic transformations.

Abhishek Singh, Additional Secretary at the MeitY, NIC Director General, and CEO of IndiaAI Mission, emphasized, “This repository of over 100 AI impact startups and non-profits serves as a practical resource, offering stakeholders a structured overview of initiatives aligned with public objectives. For policymakers, it spotlights capabilities ready for integration with existing digital public infrastructure. For industry and investors, it highlights ventures with proven technical maturity, scalability, and long-term potential.”

India AI Mission’s IAS officer Mohammad Y. Safirulla K. added, “India’s AI ecosystem is rapidly maturing. This compilation captures a pivotal moment where startups are transitioning from promising pilots to solutions serving millions. The Mission remains committed to fostering this ecosystem, providing stakeholders clear insights into sectors already yielding positive impacts.”

As India races towards AI leadership, such reports underscore the nation’s unique path: leveraging voice and local languages to include the excluded, fostering inclusive growth in the digital age.
