In the golden era of 90s Bollywood, action-packed blockbusters like Karan Arjun and Mohra ruled the box office. But one film that shattered records and remains etched in fans’ memories is Kachche Dhaage, starring Ajay Devgn, Saif Ali Khan, Manisha Koirala, and Namrata Shirodkar. Released on this day in 1999, it raked in over 200 crores domestically, thanks to its razor-sharp dialogues, breathtaking locations, and adrenaline-fueled action sequences.

What many don’t know is the perilous journey behind the camera. Director Milan Luthria, a close friend of Ajay Devgn, faced delays as the actor’s packed schedule pushed the project back by six months. Finally, in a heated confrontation, Luthria demanded commitment, and Ajay agreed to start shooting two months later.

The film’s iconic train sequence, shot in the infamous haunted village of Kuldhara, pushed boundaries. Ajay performed every stunt himself, shunning body doubles. In the heart-stopping scene where train coaches are detached, with his hand handcuffed and the train at full throttle, Ajay’s life hung by a thread. One wrong move, and disaster loomed—but his precision saved the day, leaving the crew breathless.

Saif Ali Khan lightened the tension with his playful antics, even dancing on a moving train, earning scoldings from the team. Kuldhara’s eerie backdrop added supernatural chills, making the shoot unforgettable. Today, marking 27 years, Kachche Dhaage stands as a testament to raw courage and cinematic magic that defined an era.
