Chennai is bracing for scattered showers as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts light to moderate rainfall across southern and coastal Tamil Nadu over the next few days. This weather shift stems from a low-pressure area forming over the equatorial Indian Ocean and adjacent southwest Bay of Bengal.
The IMD reports that this system could intensify while moving west-northwest. On Friday, expect light rains in southern Tamil Nadu and coastal districts, with similar conditions likely in Puducherry and Karaikal. Thunderstorms accompanied by moderate showers are possible on Friday and Sunday in parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.
Light rainfall may continue at isolated spots on February 23 and 24. Meanwhile, northern Tamil Nadu districts could see morning haze or mist for the next two days, potentially reducing visibility during early hours.
In the capital Chennai, partly cloudy skies prevail, with patches of light mist possible in the morning. Strong winds are forecast around the southwest Bay of Bengal and equatorial Indian Ocean, making sea conditions rough.
Fishermen have been strictly advised not to venture into these waters until further notice. Authorities urge coastal residents to monitor official weather bulletins closely and exercise caution during thunderstorms.
The weather system is under constant surveillance, with updates to follow. With intermittent rains expected, residents are encouraged to plan travel cautiously and stay vigilant against sudden changes.
