CHANDIGARH: In a decisive move amid intense scrutiny from Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav has suspended DSP Patti Jagbir Singh and SHO Sarhali Gurwinder Singh over the brutal murder of sarpanch Harbhinder Singh. The suspensions stem from glaring lapses in security arrangements at the crime scene.
The shocking incident unfolded at a wedding ceremony in Sidhu Farm under Sarhali police station limits in Ferozepur range. Two unidentified assailants opened fire on Harbhinder Singh, who succumbed to his injuries en route to the hospital. An eyewitness who chased the attackers was shot in the leg and remains under medical care.
DGP Yadav issued strict directives to DIG Ferozepur Range Snehdeep Sharma and SSP Tarn Taran Surendra Lamba to personally oversee the investigation and ensure swift arrests. ‘The state government remains committed to maintaining law and order,’ the DGP emphasized.
SSP Lamba revealed that preliminary probes point towards personal enmity rather than extortion or threats. ‘No prior warnings were received,’ he stated. Four specialized teams are analyzing CCTV footage, while a forensic team combs the crime scene.
‘We will leave no stone unturned to deliver justice,’ SSP Lamba assured, vowing comprehensive scientific investigation to nab the culprits and secure maximum punishment.
