New Delhi buzzes with excitement as Punjabi superstar Gippy Grewal gears up for his latest family comedy ‘Vihah Kartara Da’. The film, co-produced with Bollywood heavyweight Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, promises a hilarious take on weddings, relationships, and family chaos. Gippy, a singer, actor, and director, is in full promotion mode, drawing parallels between his on-screen character and his own life.
Gippy reveals that his character Kartara ties the knot after overcoming major hurdles, much like his own challenging marriage. ‘My wedding faced numerous obstacles that I can’t detail, but time resolved them,’ he shares. ‘Marriages forged through difficulties tend to last longer because the real struggles happen upfront.’ This personal insight adds depth to the film’s narrative, set for release on February 27.
On his character’s habit of lying, Gippy chuckles, ‘Anyone claiming they never lie is the biggest liar. We all fib a little—like saying I’m two minutes away when it’s really two hours. But lies shouldn’t harm others.’ This light-hearted confession underscores the film’s comedic tone.
Reflecting on his career, Gippy recalls starting with Tips Industries, followed by collaborations with T-Series, Jio, Viacom, and Saregama. ‘Punjabi cinema once had limited reach, but now with bigger platforms, it’s captivating audiences worldwide. Our films are family festivals—perfect for all ages without awkward moments.’
Co-star Nimrat Khaira, the popular singer-actress, adds her flair. Jokingly, she says, ‘I hope my future groom isn’t like Kartara—watch the film to find out why!’ On wedding stresses, she notes, ‘Handling upset relatives like uncles and brothers-in-law is tougher than budgeting.’ Nimrat dreams of a love marriage with an emotional, loving, caring partner.
As ‘Vihah Kartara Da’ approaches theaters, it celebrates resilient relationships and family joys, blending Punjabi humor with universal appeal.
