In the remote Walong region of Arunachal Pradesh, a fierce forest fire that erupted on February 13 has kept emergency responders on their toes. Now entering its fifth day, a coordinated operation involving the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, and local civil administration remains in full swing as of Tuesday.
Swift action and seamless teamwork have made significant headway in containing the blaze. Despite challenging weather and rugged terrain, round-the-clock efforts are pushing back the flames. Soldiers from the Spear Corps have taken the lead, partnering with IAF helicopters for aerial surveys and precision water drops where needed.
Heavy machinery, specialized firefighting gear, and a large contingent of personnel are deployed to halt the fire’s spread. Post-suppression, continuous monitoring and patrols ensure no re-ignition in affected zones.
On the fifth day, the GOC of 2 Mountain Division visited the site, assessing progress and praising the troops’ dedication, bravery, and rapid response. ‘This joint effort not only controls the fire but also reassures local communities,’ the GOC stated, noting that the spread has been largely checked, though vigilance persists.
This operation exemplifies the growing synergy between armed forces and civil authorities in tackling natural disasters in Arunachal’s border areas. In hard-to-reach Walong, their collaboration safeguards lives and property. Locals have expressed gratitude, citing the military presence as a source of confidence.
