In a move to ease the festive rush during Holi, South Eastern Railway has announced special trains between Tatanagar and Katihar. These Holi Specials will operate five round trips each way, catering to the surge in passengers traveling between Jharkhand and Bihar.
The decision comes as Holi celebrations draw massive crowds, particularly on routes connecting these two states. Railway authorities issued the notification on Tuesday, prioritizing passenger convenience and safety amid the expected influx.
Train No. 08181 Tatanagar-Katihar Holi Special will depart Tatanagar every Monday from March 2 to 30, 2026, at 1:00 PM, arriving Katihar next day at 7:30 AM. The return Train No. 08182 Katihar-Tatanagar will leave Katihar every Tuesday from March 3 to 31, 2026, at 10:30 AM, reaching Tatanagar by 4:30 AM the following morning.
Within South Eastern Railway’s jurisdiction, the trains will halt at Chandil, Muri, and Bokaro Steel City. Further stops include key stations like Chandrapura, Katrasgarh, Dhanbad, Chittaranjan, Madhupur, Jasidih, Jamtara, Kiul, Begusarai, Khagaria, and Naugachia, ensuring broad accessibility.
Railway officials highlighted the annual spike in travel demand during Holi between Bihar and Jharkhand. ‘This special service will provide significant relief to commuters,’ they stated, urging passengers to check reservation status beforehand and arrive early at stations.
The initiative reflects railways’ proactive approach to festival travel. Official social media channels have shared schedules, wishing travelers a safe and joyful journey. As bookings open, festive travelers are advised to plan ahead for hassle-free trips.
