New Delhi is emerging as a global powerhouse in artificial intelligence, with a groundbreaking white paper revealing that 16 percent of the world’s AI talent hails from Indian roots. Released on Tuesday, this report underscores India’s commanding edge in the AI landscape and projects the country could drive nearly 20 percent of global GDP growth over the next 15 years.
Unveiled at the India AI Impact Summit 2026, the document titled ‘AI for All: Catalyzing Jobs, Growth, and Opportunity’ shifts the narrative on AI from job displacement to a catalyst for productivity, institutional strength, and inclusive digital economies. Prepared by global tech firm Prosus in partnership with BCG and India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), it draws from discussions with policymakers and sector experts.
The paper argues that the next phase of development hinges not just on AI access, but on disciplined implementation and widespread institutional adoption. It highlights India’s digital public infrastructure—Jan Dhan, Aadhaar, UPI, Account Aggregator, and ONDC—as blueprints for responsibly scaling AI in emerging economies, positioning India as a model for the Global South.
Abhishek Singh, Additional Secretary at MeitY and CEO of the IndiaAI Mission, emphasized India’s robust digital foundations and vast AI talent pool. ‘The challenge now is to institutionalize these capabilities for tangible outcomes,’ he stated.
Rantala Chandrashekhar, Chief Mentor of AI for All and Chairman of the Center for the Digital Future, stressed embedding AI in agriculture markets, classrooms, hospitals, factories, and financial systems. ‘Responsible deployment can spur job creation, trust, and sustained productivity,’ he added.
Prosus India MD Sehraj Singh and BCG MD Vipin V noted that true progress lies in effective, large-scale AI execution, transforming it into a strategic asset linked to economic gains and systemic performance.
This white paper serves as a roadmap for leveraging AI to foster employment, boost productivity, and ensure inclusive growth, with India at the forefront.
