Lucknow has witnessed a healthcare revolution under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s leadership over the past nine years. What was once labeled a ‘Bimaroo Pradesh’ – a sickly state – is now emerging as a model of robust primary health infrastructure. The Yogi government has prioritized strengthening community health centers (CHCs) and primary health centers (PHCs) across rural and remote areas, ensuring accessible medical services for every citizen.

Since taking office in 2017, the administration has established hundreds of new health sub-centers, PHCs, and CHCs, while upgrading existing ones with cutting-edge equipment, ample medicines, and specialist doctors. Facilities that previously offered only basic services now provide round-the-clock delivery services, pathology tests, X-rays, ultrasounds, and life-saving drugs. This upgrade has dramatically boosted institutional delivery rates, particularly in villages, where maternal and child health services receive top priority.

The motto ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’ – together with all, development for all – drives the government’s commitment to deliver healthcare to the last mile. Recruitment drives have filled long-vacant positions for doctors and paramedical staff, blending contractual and permanent hires to ensure expert availability. Digital surveillance systems now combat communicable diseases like dengue, malaria, AES, and JE effectively, with primary-level testing and treatment preventing outbreaks.

Mortality rates have plummeted in several districts, thanks to expanded labs for swift disease detection. Schemes like Ayushman Bharat and Mukhyamantri Jan Arogya Yojana offer up to ₹5 lakh in free treatment to millions, with PHCs playing a pivotal role in rural outreach. Digital platforms have streamlined health card distribution and beneficiary verification, enhancing transparency.

Medical education has flourished with new colleges and fortified district hospitals, creating seamless referral systems from primary to advanced care. Ambulances 102 and 108 stand ready for emergencies, while telemedicine via e-Sanjeevani connects remote patients to specialists from home. The COVID-19 pandemic tested this infrastructure, revealing its strength as village-level teams conducted screenings, tests, and vaccinations, propelling Uttar Pradesh to lead India’s immunization drive.

Oxygen plants, ICU beds, and ventilators installed during the crisis continue to serve routine needs. Declining maternal and infant mortality, rising institutional deliveries, improved vaccination coverage, and disease control underscore the transformation. With consistent budget hikes, primary health remains the cornerstone, turning Uttar Pradesh into a healthy, thriving state.
