In a shocking incident that has gripped Ranchi, a luxury Mercedes car dragged a young man for several kilometers after striking a woman pedestrian. The driver, identified as High Court advocate Manoj Tandon, has been taken into custody by police.
The drama unfolded Tuesday near Rajendra Chowk in the Dorunda police station area. Eyewitnesses report the Mercedes first hit a woman, causing injuries. When a brave young man intervened to stop the vehicle, the driver allegedly accelerated, pinning him to the bonnet and speeding away.
Despite attempts by on-duty Home Guard personnel to halt the car along the route, the advocate continued driving recklessly. Reports indicate he eventually took the victim to his residence, where the man was allegedly assaulted further.
Alert police officers tracked the vehicle to the lawyer’s home, rescued the injured youth, and detained Tandon. The victim received immediate medical attention, while crowds gathered at Dorunda police station demanding strict action.
The case quickly escalated to the Jharkhand High Court. The Advocates’ Association informed the court of the arrest and sought protection amid rising tensions. Chief Justice M.S. Sonak’s bench firmly stated no one is above the law, directing police to proceed per protocol and instructing the state Advocate General to ensure the lawyer’s safety through coordination.
Investigations are underway, with authorities probing all angles of this brazen road rage episode. Ranchi residents are outraged, calling for swift justice in this alarming breach of public safety.
