New Delhi witnessed a major boost to its urban infrastructure on Monday as Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta jointly unveiled a state-of-the-art multi-level car parking facility at Nehru Place District Centre in South Delhi. This initiative aims to alleviate the city’s crippling traffic congestion and parking woes.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta highlighted the stark contrast with previous administrations, where numerous parking projects languished in bureaucratic files for years. Under the BJP government, however, progress has been swift. Within just one year, automatic multi-level parking in Punjabi Bagh and modern shuttle parking in Greater Kailash have been operationalized.

“This is the result of the people’s unified mandate to accelerate stalled development projects,” Gupta asserted. She expressed gratitude to the LG for his guidance, crediting his involvement as pivotal to the government’s first-year achievements.

The new six-story structure boasts capacity for 650 four-wheelers and 352 two-wheelers simultaneously. On a rotational basis, it can accommodate around 2,000 vehicles daily, addressing Delhi’s escalating parking demands effectively.

Gupta announced a comprehensive plan underway to develop parks and parking facilities on DDA land in areas facing acute shortages. The event saw participation from South Delhi MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, DDA Vice Chairman N. Saravana Kumar, and senior DDA officials.

Criticizing past governments for lacking coordination with the Centre and LG, the CM noted how this led to prolonged delays in public welfare projects. In contrast, the current BJP dispensation has benefited from the LG’s personal inspections of sites, constant monitoring of drain cleaning, road construction, and infrastructure works.

“With the LG’s leadership and Centre’s support, we’re working in close coordination to deliver tangible results,” she said. These joint efforts are rapidly transforming Delhi into a cleaner, more organized, and developed metropolis.
