New Delhi, February 16 – Social media giant X, formerly known as Twitter, experienced a widespread outage on Monday evening around 7 PM, leaving millions of users frustrated worldwide, including in India. Reports flooded in as users encountered blank screens and failed feed refreshes, disrupting their online experience.

Outage tracking website Down Detector recorded over 25,000 complaints within hours. Data revealed that 53% of issues stemmed from app login failures, while 16% affected the website. The sudden blackout caught users off guard, with no immediate explanation from X’s team despite outreach attempts.

This isn’t the first time X has faltered. Last November, a massive disruption hit India and global users, linked to Cloudflare’s infrastructure woes. Cloudflare confirmed the probe then, resolving it swiftly, though it rippled across dependent sites, even slowing Down Detector itself.

Fast forward to May this year, another global glitch crippled X, blocking post loads and logins. Over 5,000 reports highlighted app troubles (41%), website access (18%), and login pages. Indian users particularly struggled, switching to browsers unsuccessfully.

As digital dependence grows, such incidents underscore vulnerabilities in our connected world. X users took to alternative platforms to vent, sharing memes and speculation. While the platform eventually stabilized, the episode reignites debates on reliability amid intensifying cyber threats and infrastructure strains. Authorities and experts urge better transparency from tech firms during crises.
