PESHAWAR – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in Pakistan was shaken by a powerful bomb explosion near Miryan police station in Bannu district on Monday. The blast claimed two lives, including a child, and injured 17 others, according to local police statements reported by media outlets.

The explosion was triggered by a time bomb hidden in a motorcycle parked close to shops in front of the station. While no police personnel were harmed, civilians in the vicinity bore the brunt of the attack. Several of the wounded are in critical condition and have been rushed to medical facilities.

Rescue teams swiftly arrived at the scene, transporting the deceased and injured to nearby hospitals like the Medical Teaching Institution and Khalifa Gul Nawaz Hospital. A large police contingent, including the bomb disposal squad and quick response force, cordoned off the area and launched a thorough search operation.

Evidence collection is underway as investigators probe the incident. The bomb disposal team also cleared the site of any potential secondary threats. Bannu Deputy Inspector General of Police Sajjad Khan visited the hospitals to check on the victims’ conditions.

This attack comes amid a spate of violence in the region. Just the previous night, a bridge in Kot Hakim area was destroyed by explosives, disrupting local transport. Governor Faisal Karim Kundi strongly condemned the bombing, expressing deep grief over the loss of lives and vowing that the provincial administration stands firmly with the affected families.

Recent months have seen repeated deadly incidents in Bannu. In January, a blast in Domel injured two boys, one of whom succumbed to injuries later. Earlier that month, former nazim Fida Muhammad Khan Wazir was wounded in a bomb attack outside his office. Security forces continue to hunt for perpetrators threatening regional peace.
