Mumbai’s crime branch has scored a major breakthrough in the brazen firing incident at Bollywood director Rohit Shetty’s residence. The primary shooter, who carried out the attack, has been arrested from Rajasthan, marking a significant step forward in the investigation.
In a coordinated operation spanning multiple states, the crime branch apprehended six suspects, including the shooter. These individuals were hiding in various locations across Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh after executing the audacious assault. With this latest haul, the total number of arrests in the case now stands at 11.
The incident sent shockwaves through the film industry when gunshots rang out near Shetty’s home. Lawrence gang associate Shubham Lonkar claimed responsibility via social media, issuing chilling threats to eliminate the director. Police updates confirmed the shooter’s capture, underscoring their relentless pursuit.
Investigators recreated the crime scene with the suspects just a day prior, meticulously tracing the scooter’s route and re-examining CCTV footage from the vicinity. Interrogations revealed that Lonkar paid the perpetrators 51,000 rupees post-mission, covering expenses like the scooter’s purchase—far exceeding the initially reported 40,000.
The probe deepened with statements from Shetty and Ranveer Singh’s manager, fueled by suspicions that the attack went beyond mere intimidation. Threatening voice messages targeting Singh’s manager mentioned Shetty explicitly, warning it was just the ‘trailer’ with more to come. The audio, purportedly from Lawrence Bishnoi gang member Harry Boxer, urged the stars to ‘mend their ways.’
Mumbai crime branch is now verifying the audio’s authenticity and tracking the sender’s location. This case highlights escalating gang rivalries encroaching on Mumbai’s glitzy Bollywood circles, prompting heightened security measures for industry heavyweights. As leads solidify, authorities vow to dismantle the entire network behind this high-profile threat.
