Delhi and NCR residents have been battling unusual February heat, reminiscent of peak summer months. Clear skies and intense sunlight have pushed temperatures well above normal. But relief is on the horizon, courtesy of an active western disturbance brewing over northwest India.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts maximum temperatures in Delhi-NCR hovering between 28-29°C from February 16 to 21, with minimums around 13-14°C. Sunday saw a high of 28.5°C, 4 degrees above average. However, winds picking up speed to 19 km/h have introduced a chill even under the blazing sun, keeping nighttime lows below 15°C.
Major shift expected on February 17-18. Clouds will gather on the 17th, with temperatures peaking at 29°C. Come 18th, light rain or drizzle is highly likely across the capital region. Post-rain, mercury may dip slightly by 1-2°C to 28°C, though experts predict a quick rebound from the 19th.
Uttar Pradesh will feel the disturbance too, with light showers and gusty winds of 30-40 km/h in Agra and Bundelkhand on 17-18th. Rajasthan, however, braces for dry, scorching conditions; Jaipur and Bikaner recorded highs over 30°C Sunday, with more intense sunshine ahead.
In Jharkhand, minimum temperatures rise to 12-13°C, minimal chill in southern districts like Jamshedpur hitting 15°C. Bihar anticipates changing patterns, possible fog and cold winds around Patna on the 16th. Hill states Himachal and Uttarakhand face snow and rain alerts, influencing plains’ weather.
Health advisory: Watch for flu amid fluctuations. Rain could cleanse Delhi’s poor AQI, offering respite from pollution.
