In a dominant display at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, India scripted history by thrashing Pakistan by 61 runs in the 27th match of the T20 World Cup 2026. This victory marked India’s eighth win against Pakistan in T20 World Cup history, establishing a unique record for the most victories against a single opponent in the tournament.

India has now won 8 out of 9 encounters with Pakistan in T20 World Cups, including one thrilling super over triumph. Pakistan’s solitary win came in 2021, leaving them trailing far behind in this high-stakes rivalry.

The record for most wins against one team now sees Australia (vs Bangladesh), Pakistan (vs Bangladesh), Sri Lanka (vs West Indies), and West Indies (vs England) tied for second place.

Batting first, India posted a formidable 175/7 in their 20 overs. Ishan Kishan starred with a blistering 77 off 40 balls, smashing 10 fours and 3 sixes. Captain Suryakumar Yadav contributed a steady 25. Pakistan’s chase crumbled dramatically, folding for 114 in just 18 overs. Usman Khan top-scored with 44, while Shaheen Afridi remained unbeaten on 23.

This win propelled India to their third consecutive victory in the tournament, securing a spot in the Super-8 stage. They had earlier beaten USA by 29 runs and Namibia by 93 runs. Next up for India is a group-stage finale against Netherlands on February 18.

Pakistan, meanwhile, slipped to third in Group A standings after losses to Netherlands, USA, and now India. With two wins from four games, USA leads them. Pakistan must defeat Namibia on February 18 to harbor any Super-8 hopes.
