Bhopal is buzzing with political anticipation as the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly gears up for its crucial budget session starting Monday. Both the ruling party and opposition have sharpened their strategies, setting the stage for intense debates on government policies and financial blueprints.

The government is poised to unveil a colossal budget exceeding Rs 4 lakh crore for the fiscal year 2026-27 on February 18. Spanning 19 sittings, the session will run until March 6. It kicks off with the Governor’s address, outlining key achievements and future roadmaps. Right after, the Finance Minister will present the budget, detailing revenue projections, expenditure breakdowns, and fresh policy announcements.

Expect fiery exchanges in the house. Lawmakers have submitted a whopping 3,478 questions, with 2,253 filed online via digital portals—a sign of growing tech adoption—and 1,225 through traditional offline methods. Of these, 1,750 are starred questions requiring oral responses from ministers, while 1,728 will get written replies.

The opposition is ramping up pressure with 192 calling attention motions on pressing public issues and eight adjournment proposals. If accepted, these could derail regular proceedings and spark prolonged, heated discussions.

Key concerns range from local woes like infrastructure gaps, delays in welfare schemes, water shortages, and law enforcement challenges to statewide priorities such as industrial growth, farm support, education reforms, healthcare improvements, and fiscal discipline amid rising costs. This session promises to hold the government accountable on multiple fronts, shaping Madhya Pradesh’s developmental trajectory.
