Bengaluru is set to host a spectacular Maha Shivratri celebration at the Art of Living International Center, drawing celebrities from Indian cinema and devotees from across the globe. Expectations are high as followers from 180 countries converge for the sacred Rudra Homa ritual, creating a vibrant tapestry of devotion.

In an exclusive conversation, Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar illuminated the profound significance of Maha Shivratri. ‘There are 12 Shivratris in a year, but the one in Magha is revered as Maha Shivratri,’ he shared. ‘On this day, set aside worldly affairs and immerse in the Shiva essence. Worship Shiva, chant his name from the heart, and attain salvation. Lord Shiva, the generous giver, fulfills sincere prayers without fanfare.’

He emphasized, ‘Everything is Shiva; the rest is but a corpse.’ This powerful metaphor underscores the ultimate reality beyond illusions.

Sri Sri highlighted meditation’s role amid modern stresses and uncertainties. ‘Meditation connects the inner self to the seated Shiva within,’ he said. ‘Daily spiritual practices, kirtan, and mantra chanting dissolve worries by surrendering them to Shiva.’

The event features a special Rudrabhishek using relics from Somnath Temple—now 12 in number, up from two—drawing crowds for the evening ceremony. This Maha Shivratri promises spiritual renewal for all attendees.
