In a major boost for industrial growth in Madhya Pradesh, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav unveiled development projects worth nearly Rs 700 crore in Burhanpur on Saturday. The highlight was the announcement of an upcoming agriculture-based Regional Industry Conclave in the district, aimed at propelling local economy through agro-industries.

Burhanpur, renowned for its powerloom textile sector and cotton farming, has long been a hub for weavers. The CM emphasized the district’s potential in diverse sectors from agriculture to textiles, pharmaceuticals, furniture, pipes, and farm equipment manufacturing. ‘Burhanpur has no equal,’ he declared, underscoring its prowess.

Key initiatives include establishing a value addition, storage, and processing unit for banana producers, whose crops form a vital part of the region’s agricultural diversity. A mini airport will soon take off here, enhancing connectivity. Roads from Khamni to dahi Handi, Khamni to Raigaon, and Shahpur to Sukhpuri are also on the anvil.

The conclave series, previously held in Sagar, Jabalpur, Rewa, and others, seeks to foster regional industrial development. Shahpur Nagar Parishad will be upgraded to Nagar Palika status post-trial, and a Kirtan Kendra for the Warkari community is planned.

Cotton cultivation, driven by surging textile demand, boosts farmer incomes and strengthens industries. CM Yadav highlighted expanding processing, storage, and export facilities for bananas and cotton, aligning with the ‘Kisan Kalyan Varsh’ focus on hardworking farmers.
