Mumbai’s political circles are buzzing with controversy after a portrait of Tipu Sultan was hung in the Malegaon Deputy Mayor’s office. NCP spokesperson Anand Paranjape has sharply criticized the move, calling it a blatant disrespect to the dignity of a government space.

Speaking exclusively to reporters, Paranjape emphasized that public offices should only display images of national leaders who embody unity and progress. ‘Tipu Sultan’s historical legacy is deeply divisive,’ he stated. ‘Placing his portrait in an official setting twists history and undermines the sanctity of these institutions.’

The issue has ignited a fierce debate across Maharashtra, with BJP leaders accusing the local administration of historical revisionism. Protests have erupted, demanding the portrait’s immediate removal to preserve the office’s neutrality.

Paranjape didn’t stop there. He defended the recent India-US defense deal against opposition attacks, labeling critics as peddlers of misinformation. ‘This pact bolsters our national security amid global threats,’ he asserted. ‘Opposition leaders are distorting facts for cheap political points, whether in Parliament or on TV screens.’

Turning to national developments, Paranjape welcomed the inauguration of the new Prime Minister’s Office complex, ‘Seva Tirth’ in New Delhi. ‘Since Narendra Modi’s tenure began, governance has transformed radically,’ he said. ‘This eco-friendly, tech-savvy hub symbolizes efficient administration and public service.’

The complex boasts cutting-edge digital integration, sustainable design, and streamlined workspaces, marking a milestone in modernizing India’s administrative framework.

Addressing internal NCP matters, Paranjape dismissed rumors about factional rifts. He clarified statements from Maharashtra unit chief Shashikant Shinde, insisting that discussions about aligning with BJP were misconstrued. ‘Internal deliberations are being leaked to sow discord,’ he charged. ‘Ajit Pawar remains committed, and such tactics won’t divide us.’

As Maharashtra’s political landscape heats up, Paranjape’s outspoken views highlight the ongoing tussle between history, security, and party unity.
