CHENNAI: In a sharp political volley ahead of Tamil Nadu’s assembly elections, BJP spokesperson ANS Prasad has accused actor-turned-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) of inadvertently bolstering the ruling DMK’s position. Prasad claimed that TVK’s maneuvers are fragmenting anti-DMK votes, potentially handing an advantage to the incumbent party.
Speaking at a party meeting in Salem, Prasad dissected Vijay’s recent remarks questioning whether anyone today could independently form a party like legends M.G. Ramachandran or C.N. Annadurai. He dismissed these comments as ‘politically immature,’ arguing they reveal a lack of strategic depth in Vijay’s political foray.
The BJP leader echoed state president Nainar Nagendran’s advice to Vijay, urging him to move beyond ‘cinema-style rhetoric’ and engage directly with grassroots issues. Prasad described Nagendran’s words as constructive guidance, lamenting how DMK supporters and sections of the media had twisted them into controversy.
Prasad also referenced a tragic incident where 41 of Vijay’s supporters allegedly lost their lives, questioning the absence of sustained protests or demands for justice. He alleged that while Vijay initially blamed the DMK government and Chief Minister MK Stalin, he later softened his stance, raising eyebrows about his commitment.
With rising public discontent against DMK, the BJP warns that TVK’s emergence could prevent opposition votes from consolidating behind the AIADMK-BJP alliance. Drawing parallels to icons like MGR and J. Jayalalithaa, who built their legacies through decades of public service, Prasad expressed confidence that Tamil Nadu’s voters would scrutinize all parties’ intentions before polling day.
As election fever intensifies, this exchange underscores the high-stakes battle shaping up in the Dravidian heartland, where every vote-split could prove decisive.
