Colombo buzzes with anticipation as Pakistan gears up to face India in a high-stakes T20 World Cup encounter at the R Premadasa Stadium on Sunday. In a bold pre-match statement, Pakistan’s captain Salman Agha has dubbed spinner Usman Tariq their secret weapon, calling him the ‘Trump card’ amid swirling controversies over his unique bowling action.

Tariq has grabbed headlines throughout the tournament, not just for his wicket-taking prowess but for the legitimacy of his bowling style. Critics have zeroed in on his delivery stride, where he keeps his landing foot suspended in the air longer than usual before releasing the ball. This unorthodox technique has sparked debates, but Agha dismissed the noise emphatically.

During Saturday’s press conference, Agha fired back at the scrutiny. ‘ICC has cleared Usman twice already. Why all the fuss now?’ he questioned. ‘He’s bowling brilliantly for us. All players are equal, but you’ve hyped him up. He’s our Trump card, unaffected by the chatter.’

Shifting focus to batting, Agha expressed confidence in star player Babar Azam. ‘Babar’s in form and scoring runs. No concerns there. We expect him to deliver big on Sunday and won’t tinker much with our batting order.’

Agha candidly acknowledged Pakistan’s poor historical record against India in T20 World Cups—losing seven out of eight clashes, with their sole victory in 2021. ‘History can’t be rewritten, but we’re focused on performing better tomorrow,’ he affirmed.

As the arch-rivals prepare to lock horns, all eyes are on whether Tariq’s spin can turn the tide for Pakistan in this pivotal group-stage battle. Fans worldwide await what promises to be a thriller under Colombo’s lights.
