In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Punjab Police in Ferozepur dismantled a notorious syndicate dealing in narcotics and arms on Saturday. Four suspects were arrested, with authorities recovering a staggering 22 kilograms of heroin, two Glock pistols complete with magazines and ammunition, a car, and over 2 lakh rupees in drug money.
Punjab Police Director General Gaurav Yadav announced the breakthrough on social media platform X, highlighting the operation’s success in disrupting the gang’s operations. An FIR has been registered against the accused, and investigations are underway to uncover their upstream and downstream networks.
This latest bust underscores Punjab Police’s unwavering commitment to eradicating drug networks across the state and ensuring public safety. Just two days prior, on February 12, another significant operation in Amritsar’s Chheharta area led to the arrest of two key members of a cross-border narco-trafficking ring. That raid yielded 7.63 kilograms of heroin and Rs 21,800 in cash.
Preliminary probes revealed the Amritsar suspects were in contact with a Dubai-based handler using virtual numbers. This handler orchestrated heroin shipments across the border, dictating pickup points and supply chain logistics. He is linked to multiple drug networks, including a prior case involving the seizure of 43 kilograms of heroin under the NDPS Act.
These back-to-back successes signal a robust offensive against the menace of drugs in Punjab, a border state long plagued by smuggling from neighboring countries. Law enforcement officials vow to intensify surveillance and intelligence gathering to dismantle larger syndicates. Residents have welcomed the actions, hoping for a drug-free future.
